Chaeronea, 2 August 338 BC: A day that changed the world" is the title of the temporary exhibition organised by the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, which is until March 2024.

The battle of Chaeronea is part of the new series of archaeological exhibitions 'Human stories ' and talks about one of the most violent battles of the ancient times.

Its importance was big since it was the transition from the Classical to the Hellenistic period. The allied Greek cities of S. Greece fought against the Macedonian army of Philip II and lost. It was a conflict where the 18 year old Alexander fought next to his father. It was just the beginning of his later conquer of the world, where he was able to make Greek language and culture known till the end of Asia, in present Pakistan.

In this exhibition and its stories about life, manners, perception and thinking of the later generations had the chance The Association of Licensed Tourist Guides, Athens-Greece to visit on the 24th of January 2024 with the company of Evi Papadopoulou, curator of Prehistoric Antiquities and Dr. of Prehistoric Archaeology of the School of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina and Marietta Kypriotaki, assistant curator. Their knowledge , passion and descriptions took us to another world, where death and violence was a basic value, but it was strongly connected to ethos and virtue so someone could belong to the Polis (City- state).

We would like to express our gratitude to the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens and the two ladies, curators, for this unique experience!

We would like to thank and all of our colleagues that responded to the invitation of the Association of Licensed Tourist guides, Athens Greece!
We are so grateful!

A small reminder: you can visit this exhibition until 31st of March 2024. It's worth it.
