For the 150 anniversary of the establishment of the German Archaeological Institute of Athens, The Association of Licensed Tourist Guides, Athens-Greece arranged a visit in the headquarters, in Feidiou str. 1.
Under the guidance of the archaeologist, scientific partner and director of the archives we were led through the long history of studies, excavations and innovations through pictures and papers, that show how they changed and evolved the archaeology in Greece!
We got also informed about the projects of the Institute, that cover a long area from the mainland until the islands of Greece.
At the end, Mr. Oliver Pilz (deputy director of the Institute and director of the excavations in Olympia) presente the new data of Olympia anf then Mrs Jutta Stroszeck (director of the excavations in Kerameikos- the ancient cemetery of Athens) present the findings of Kerameikos.
We would like to thank the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut (
www.dainst.org) for its hospitality and the speakers' generosity and their excellent presentations!
Of course, we would like to thank all of the participants that showed once more that life long learning is part of the guides' profession!
